Oma's spiced chocolate chip cookies

A classic with a pinch of warmth and spice.

My mom - Oma to her grandkids - has been making these cookies my entire life. When I asked her for the recipe, she admitted it's simply the Nestlé Toll House recipe, but with the addition of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. The warm spices transform these classic cookies into something truly special, perfectly complementing the dark chocolate and filling the house with an irresistible aroma. If you're like me, you'll also have a spoonful (or three...) of cookie dough while they're in the oven. Whether you're baking for the holidays or just because it's a Tuesday, these cookies never disappoint.

Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
2 cups dark chocolate chips
Optional: flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and creamy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until evenly distributed.
Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the dark chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 9-10 minutes until golden brown.
If using flaky sea salt, sprinkle a small pinch on each cookie immediately after removing from the oven.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes before serving and enjoy!
